On one thing the Remington Arms Company wants to be very clear: this is not a simple "conversion", either factory or aftermarket. While most components remain the same, in fact, both the bolt and the frame have been modified to provide maximum reliability when operating with the new feeding system.

We're talking about the new Remington 870 DM line of pump-action shotguns, where "DM" stands for "Detachable Magazines". As its own name suggests, the Remington 870 DM shotgun does without the standard magazine tube – which now acts only as a guide for the sliding forend – and feeds through detachable 3-shots or 6-shots detachable magazines. Higher-capacity magazines may be made available in the future.

The Remington 870 DM pump-action shotgun system is chambered in 12 gauge and will feed 70mm/2.¾" and 76mm/3" shotshells alike.

Six versions are available so far: two variants of the classic setup, with either wooden or black polymer furniture; the "Predator" variant, with a thumbhole stock and an overall Mossy Oak camo finish; the "Tactical" variant, with a fixed stock and pistol grip; the "Magpul" variant, featuring a MagPul MOE forend and SGA stock; and the ultra-short TAC-14.

In terms of hunting and sport shooting, the new Remington 870 DM line of pump-action shotguns offers a clear advantage in allowing quicker reload. In terms of personal, home and property protection as well as private security, Police, military, crowd control and tactical applications, the magazine-feeding system allows the user to smoothly and easily transition between several types of ammunition, making scalar use of force finally practical.
