Ruger upgrades the popular American Rifle to the Generation II: two models in as many stock and barrel options and ten popular hunting calibers to choose from will be joined by a plethora of new options in the coming months

Launched on the north American market on December 18, 2023, the new Ruger American Rifle Generation II line of bolt-action hunting rifles represents the natural evolution of the Ruger American Rifle line that has been dominating the hunting rifles market ever since its first introduction back in 2012.

Available in two variants – Standard and Ranch Rifle – and as many stock and barrel options so far, the Ruger American Rifle Generation II offers several improvements over the baseline American Rifle series, some of which are immediately recognizable at a first glance.

The most significant improvements to the Ruger American Rifle Generation II are the three-position tang safety and a more rigid and ergonomic stock. Incorporated into the renowned Ruger Marksman Adjustable Trigger, the new three-position safety maintains an intuitive “push forward to fire” operation while delivering the crisp, clean break today’s consumers expect.

Moving the safety all the way to the rear locks the bolt closed, ensuring the bolt will not lift inadvertently, while a center position allows the rifle to be loaded and unloaded with the safety engaged. Redesigned for more rigidity, the stock also accommodates a removable comb riser and length of pull spacer to improve sight alignment and adjust for different statures.

Standard Generation II models feature a durable, Gun Metal Gray Cerakote barreled action and a dark gray stock that is textured with black and gray splatter for excellent grip and control in the field. The 508 mm / 20″ medium-contour, cold hammer-forged barrel features deep spiral fluting on most models, improving the balance of the rifle without sacrificing rigidity or accuracy. The threaded muzzle features a factory-installed radial muzzle brake.

Generation II Ranch models sport a Cobalt Cerakote finish and are fitted to a Flat Dark Earth stock with black splatter texture. Featuring shorter 406 mm / 16″ barrels, these rifles are lighter and more compact. Removing the installed LOP spacer (common to all Gen II rifle stocks), transforms the rifle to an ultra-short 12″ LOP for smaller shooters right out of the box.

CNC machined from stainless steel, the full-diameter three-lug bolt reliably feeds from a variety of magazines and offers a short, 70-degree bolt throw, which gives ample scope clearance. The bolt handle is threaded for easy customization and fitted with an anodized round knob. The bolt and receiver have been re-engineered for smooth operation. A one-piece Picatinny scope base is installed.

All the Ruger American Rifle Generation II variants feed through detachable Accuracy International or AR-compatible box magazines, holding a anything from a minimum of three to a maximum of ten rounds depending on the caliber. The Standard models are available in .223 Remington, .243 Winchester, .204 Ruger, .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08 Remington, and .450 Bushmaster; the Ranch Rifle models are available in 5.56x45mm, 7.62x39mm, .300 AAC "Blackout", and .450 Bushmaster. Additional calibers and configurations will be available in 2024.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price on the US market starts at $729.00; for information concerning availability and pricing outside of the United States, consult the authorized Ruger Firearms distributors for your Country.
