Blaser announces a new, broad range of alternatives for the R8 Rimfire caliber conversion system: your R8 straight-pull rifle can now be converted to .22 Long Rifle, .22 Hornet, .22 Magnum, .17 Hornet and .17 HMR by just swapping a few, easily replaced components!
First announced on the global markets in late 2020, the Blaser R8 Rimfire conversion system boosts the versatility of the world-famous, wildly popular German-made R8 straight-pull bolt action rifle.
A simple kit – comprising a new, drop-in barrel, bolt head, and magazine – allows shooters and hunters to train with their R8 using widely available, low-cost rimfire ammunition, without having to settle for less than ideal compromises, using their own rifle and thus retaining and improving their familiarity with the action and trigger, for even better proficiency when the moment of truth comes.
For 2022, Blaser announced that the R8 Rimfire conversion systems line is being expanded with the launch of four new caliber conversion kits.
A .22 Long Rifle kit has been available since late 2020 – early 2021 in some markets – but soon the R8 Rimfire system will also be available in .17 HMR (Hornady Magnum Rimfire), .17 Hornet, .22 Hornet, and .22 WMR (a.k.a. .22 Magnum).
The availability of small-caliber conversion kits will allow hunters and shooters to turn their R8 straight-pull rifles into versatile alternatives for small-game hunting and pest control – particularly when used in conjunction with Blaser's own line of sound suppressors where legally available.
The modular design of Blaser's R8 line of straight-pull rifles allows shooters to convert their centerfire R8 to the use of rimfire ammunition by installing the components of the R8 Rimfire kit at home, simply by field-stripping their rifle, without requiring the services of a gunsmith (although refering to a competent professional is always highly recommended when installing functional or pressure-bearing components on a firearm).
The magazine capacity for all variants of the R8 Rimfire caliber conversion system reaches up to six rounds. The trigger system installs directly on the magazine, and is removed with it for reloading, providing additional safety and making the Blaser R8 rifle compliant with the legal restrictions in place in numerous Countries.
