"Go ahead, make my day!": who could forget Clint Eastwood holding this gun in the fourth movie of the Dirty Harry franchise – that being Sudden Impact, dated 1983? And yet, the gun he was holding – the AutoMag pistol – had been out of production for one year when the movie was released.

Harry Sandford's brainchild lived a sketchy and troublesome history, having to cope with manufacturing issues, economic turmoil within the manufacturing companies, and a low appeal towards the general shooter due to the proprietary .44 AMP caliber.

And yet, the AutoMag pistol lived on as an icon of the gun world; for twenty years after 1982, several companies tried to keep the legend alive either with small production runs of the original or with the launch of outright different guns carrying the "AutoMag" name – that being the case of a wide range of handguns produced by AMT in California all through the 1980s and well into the 1990s..

But now, the original is back: Excel Industries – out of Ontario, California – showcased the new-production .44 AMP Automag pistol at the 2018 SHOT Show in Las Vegas.

This iconic firearm was resurrected using modern technology and materials to bring the .44 AMP Pistol into the 21st Century. With the advancement of CNC technology, the Automag pistol has been greatly improved over the original design to meet the demands of today's firearm enthusiasts.

Excel Industries is ready to offer the Automag pistol in 6.½" / 16.5 cm and 8.½" / 21.5 cm barrel variants initially, but additional configurations in different calibers and many other variants should be coming soon. This is definitely a purchase that true enthusiasts and discerning collectors can't afford to miss.
