A burned Sightmark Ultra Shot M-Spec reflex sight: nearly indestructible!
Sightmark optics proved their quality once more in a sweltering day in August, when a Sightmark Ultra Shot M-Spec reflex sight survived a fire that destroyed a Texas law enforcement service vehicle where it was stored... and remained functional!
Over time, Sightmark optics have built themselves a good reputation for ruggedness, and established themselves as viable market alternatives for civilian shooters and law enforcement agencies looking for range- or service-ready optics that would fall within an acceptable price range.
That reputation was proven to be deserved once again in a sweltering August 2020 day, in Sightmark's home-state of Texas, when an officer for a (hereby unnamed) law enforcement agency was patrolling in his Chevrolet Tahoe cruiser and suddenly he smelled smoke and felt heat coming from the rear of his vehicle.
The officer quickly parked his squad car and exited, standing guard to ensure that no traffic, innocent civilians or bystanders got too close to the burning vehicle. After a few short minutes, the entire Tahoe was engulfed in flames.
Upon later inspection, the whole interior was incinerated, and the cause was determined to be accidental. Amidst the ashes, nothing functional remained, including the officer's issued Remington 870 12-gauge pump-action shotgun and AR-15 type semi-automatic patrol rifle. Nothing... except for the officer’s Sightmark Ultra Shot M-Spec reflex sight, mounted on the AR-15 in the officer’s range bag.
Even more amazing, the M-Spec was still fully operational. To quote the law enforcement agency, "We stand fully behind Sightmark products".
In the end, Sightmark replaced the burned M-Spec and continues to enjoy a healthy relationship with the law enforcement agency and its officers.
Built on a rugged and yet lightweight magnesium alloy housing, with an additional protective aluminum shield and a patented retractable polymer sunshade, the Sightmark Ultra Shot M-Spec reflex sights are IP68 rated waterproof and dustproof, as well as shockproof up to 2 meters and rated to withstand recoil up to .50 BMG.
