At the 2017 edition of Baselworld, inside the Buben&Zörweg booth, this year the Austrian gunmaker Johann Fanzoj will „surprise“ the visitors with something they do not expect: 3 fine guns, real masterpieces of art. This is jewelry in the gun world
Baselworld is a trade show of the international watch and jewellery industry, with more than 2.000 exhibitors and over 94,000 visitors. This year edition of the important Basel (Switzerland) trade show will be held next week, on March 23 to 30 2017.
The people passing by the booth of Buben & Zörweg (Hall 2.0 / stand D61) – Austrian fine manufacturer of luxury safes – will be attracted by another kind of art masterpieces, other than the jewellry and expensive watches they are used to see at the Baselworld luxury fair.
The Buben & Zörweg luxury safes will in fact host 3 among the best „jewels“ in the gunmaking universe, 3 fine guns by Johann Fanzoj, World renowned Austrian gunmaker active since 1790.
Johann Fanzoj may not be necessarily known to the majority of the people who will walk through the halls at Baselworld, but technically speaking, for whoever else „alive and thinking“ in the gunworld, the Fanzoj name normally stimulates high levels of excitement.
The pictures of this article easily explain why. But let’s give a quick look to the three fine guns that Johann Fanzoj will use to give life to the Buben&Zörweg wonderful safes.
A Petite Single Shot Rifle
Absolutely not in order of importance, the first Fanzoj gun is a petite single shot rifle, in .222 Remington caliber.
Very traditional, very European, this light, slim and elegant rifle is a piece of functional art, built to the highest level of craftsmanship.
This is a really graceful round body single shot rifle with sidelever or underlever opener, octogonal barrel, with custom-made stock crafted from Circassian walnut burl.
The fine ornamental engravings are done 100% by hand by top level metal artists selected by the Fanzoj family, with 24k gold inlays, masterfully engraved in hundreds of labour hours.
A Titanium TI-1 Bolt-Action Rifle
Titanium alloy is the best metal grade known today for premium applications. Used in rifles, Titanium allows to realize ultra-light - ultra-strong – indestructible guns: like the Fanzoj Titanium TI-1 you see in these pictures, in this case a bolt-action rifle chambered fort he powerful .300 Winchester Magnum cartridge.
The Fanzoj Titanium TI-1 is an impressive rifle. Its basic design is the one of the famous, original Mauser M98 action, unsurpassed in over hundred years.
At first sight. the weapon resembles other luxury rifles built by Fanzoj, but: only the silk-mat, charcoal shaded, perfect metal surface discloses that there is something “unconventional” about the weapon. The Titanium alloy, making the rifle incredibly light weight.
A Rich Ornament Bolt Action Rifle
Technically speaking, a traditional Mauser M98 action rifle. But emotionally speaking… this Fanzoj Rich Ornament Bolt Action Rifle is simply a masterpiece of fine art.
All bolt-action rifles experts and enthusiast are well aware of the solid mechanical tradition that characterisizes the basic design of the famous, original Mauser M98 action, unsurpassed in over hundred years. The same one adopted also for the Fanzoj Titanium TI-1.
This specific Fanzoj rifle is an impressive and absolutely fascinating object. Here, the solid elegance of the typical Mauser M98 design is coupled with the astonishing beauty of the metal engraving with 24k gold inlays, and the warm actractiveness of the superb wood used for the stock.
You don’t need to be a gun expert to realize that these are top class luxury objects intended to leave a sign through the centuries. As many other Fanzoj guns will do.
Johann Fanzoj is a gun maker in the most traditional sense of the word, one of the best known in the last two centuries of the European history.
But well beyond their actual field use, Johann Fanzoj’s fine rifles and shotguns reflect technical sophistication, a strive for perfection, creativity and a high sense of aesthetics.
And that is why a Fanzoj gun is an object of cultural value, a collectible, a demonstration of craftsmanship skills and artistic talent. In short words, a kind of piece of jewelry in the gun world.
And that is why who will have the opportunity to visit the 2017 edition of the Baselworld Luxury Fair, should be aware of all this and do all what possible to pass by the Buben & Zörweg booth, to admire the Johann Fanzoj‘s masterpieces and get in emotional contact with something that – for sure - will offer to the eyes a totally new perspective over what a luxury object, not a watch, not a traditional jewel, can be and look like.
If you have never seen nothing like that, the Baselworld show will be the perfect occasion.
