Sweeping Gun Ban for Canada?

A question from an independent Member of Parliament just threw Canadian gun owners in disarray: is the Liberal government preparing a sweeping gun ban by decree? And could this spill over to become an international matter?

Despite the massive amount of legal restrictions they’re subject to – with laws stricter than most of those in effect in the neighboring United States and even in many European Countries! – Canada and the Canadian people still enjoy a strong gun culture, a good ratio of gun ownership, and vast popularity of practices such as hunting and shooting sports. And given the history and geography of this sub-polar giant, it’s not hard to see why.

And yet, a storm seems to be coming to the True North Strong and Free as well, according to the Honorable Tony Clement, an independent Member of Parliament for Perry Sound - Muskoka (Ontario).

In the course of a Question Period on May 9th, 2019, Tony Clement asked William Sterling Blair – Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction – whether or not the current Liberal government headed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has a “secret plan” for a sweeping ban on legally-owned firearms in Canada.

According to the information passed to Clement by a so-far undisclosed source, said ban would be imposed by an “Order-in-Council” – a type of legislation by governmental decree in Commonwealth realms – without a discussion in Parliament. Neither Clement or other sources were clear on which firearms would be targeted by this Order, but some sources hint at Modern Sporting Rifles, while others suspect that it could even include handguns.

As a matter of fact, liberal political environments in cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa and Montréal have been pushing for a British-style total ban on handguns for some time now; and after the Christchurch mosques shootings in New Zealand, the same political environments renewed their calls for a total ban on semi-automatic long guns.

The answer to Tony Clement’s question by Minister Bill Blair was enough to run a chill down the spine of every gun owner in Canada – and rightfully so: right there on video, Blair would not confirm or deny the existence of such a secret plan, but admitted that the current liberal government remains “fully committed to evaluate any measure” that would “keep Canadians safe”.

According to some sources, the Liberal Party of Canada denied the existance of a plan for such an Order in Council and gun ban right the next day – probably after pondering that the next Federal elections are set to take place in five months, next October, and that polls show how over 80 percent of Canadians oppose any further form of gun control; such an Order in Council would thus be a political suicide for the Liberal Party, this likely being the true reason why Bill C-71 – a Liberal-proposed bill that would impose stricter regulation on acquisition and transport of several categories of firearms – has been stalled in Parliament for months and has already been amended several times.

But the status of Bill C-71 and the (more or less) official denial of any “secret gun ban plan” are both secondary to the fact that gun control is officially part of the political program of the Liberal Party of Canada – so much so that virtually all restrictions on gun ownership in the Country since the Second World War have been passed by liberal governments.

Domino effect

Particularly suspicious is the fact that, according to MP Clement, Canadian PM Trudeau would be planning to reveal this gun ban plan at the 2019 Women Deliver conference, to be held on June 3rd thru 6th in Vancouver; in attendance to the conference will also be New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, pretty much the sole responsible for the disastrous tightening of gun laws in the Country following the Christchurch shooting.

The New Zealand Labour Party is a member of the Progressive Alliance, an international organization of social-democrat parties established in 2013 essentially as a “softened” version of the Socialist International; and while the Liberal Party of Canada is not a member of the Progressive Alliance, the personal political positions of Justin Trudeau are much closer to those of said network than many would be comfortable with.

Parties with a long history of gun control advocacy and action worldwide are also part of the Progressive Alliance – including the Labour parties of Australia and UK; several European Parties that are part of the Socialists and Democrats group in the European Parliament; and the Democratic Party in the United States of America.

A shared international gun control agenda against law-abiding gun owners by parties and political figures aligned with the positions of the Progressive Alliance thus appears to be more than just a vague conspiracy theory – despite the fact that, as history shows, banning civilians from owning firearms never kept anybody safe, if anything it always rendered citizens defenseless against criminals, terrorists, and tyrants.

Luckily enough for the people of Canada, the Liberal Party is already pretty much slated to come out as a loser in the October elections, bringing to Ottawa a Conservative government that would be more sympathetic towards gun rights. An Order in Council can also be withdrawn as quick as it has been proclaimed – by the same government or by a successor – and it can be overturned by an act of Parliament.

There isn’t much more left to do but wait and see if the Liberal Party of Canada will indeed decide to carry on a liberticide gun control ploy for no reason other than pure ideology, or if they will come to their senses and realize that the people of Canada want and need less restrictions, and not more restrictions, to their right to own and use firearms. We won’t lie to you: we aren’t much confident about that at all.

But, if confirmed, such a gun ban ploy would indeed put the gun owners community at risk worldwide: the “young and beautiful” Justin Trudeau and Jacinda Ardern are essentially the favorite “child prodigies” of the international left, and with the connections of the Progressive Alliance, there is indeed a clear and present danger that the sweeping gun ban of New Zealand and a gun ban in Canada may be taken as an example for other parties worldwide to follow.

With the European Parliament up for renewal in late May and the US Presidential Elections set for November 2020, gun enthusiasts, gun owners and gun rights supporters worldwide now have a choice: they may believe the promise of “progress” and a “more fair society” and risk their rights knowing that the promises of “progress” and more “fairness” will be betrayed as they were in the past; or, they can disregard any other issue and vote for their gun rights, sending left-wing parties and other political formations and politicians that champion gun control a clear message: gun control is a losing argument, and if they want to ever win an election again, they must drop it for good.
