The Browning Maral, one of the world's fastest bolt-action rifles, is now available in a composite furniture version that comes from factory with a Kite Optics K1 red dot sight: a perfect combination for battue or driven hunting
The Browning Maral bolt-action rifle, with its Quick Reloading System in-line repeating mechanism – an improved version of the classic straight-pull action, mated to an extremely soft-running and yet reliable bolt with seven locking lugs – has been one of the best-selling hunting repeaters for years all around the globe, and is universally recognized as one of the fastest manual repeating rifles available.
Just in time for the 2020 hunting season, the Maral family grows of yet another member with the launch of the Browning Maral Reflex Composite Carbon Fiber – or Browning Maral Reflex Compo for short: a version specifically conceived for battue and driven hunting, offering the light weight and the rugged reliability of synthetic components mated to the lightning-fast target acquisition speed of a factory-issued red dot sight.
The Browning Maral Reflex Compo bolt-action hunting rifle is available in .308 Winchester and .30-06 Springfield, feeding through 4-rounds detachable box magazines in both cases. The fluted, 51 cm / 20" long barrel is blued, just like the receiver, and comes with a M14x1 threaded muzzle and a screw-on thread protector. The stock and tulip-style handguard are manufactured out of carbon fiber, and feature slip-proof inserts on the grip and other contact surfaces.
The combination of a relatively short barrel length and carbon fiber furniture keeps the overall length around 1 mt / 39" and the weight approximately within the 3 kg / 6.6 lbs threshold, increasing handling speed and target acquisition in driven or battue hunting.
The Reflex Compo model features the same controls configuration as all other entries in the Maral line: the magazine release catch is located just in front of the trigger guard, while a top tang safety remains at easy finger reach. The cocking handle is still on the right side only, but as smooth as it is, it shouldn't take much practice for left-handed shooters to become accustomed to it.
The Browning Maral Reflex Compo comes without iron sights from factory, replaced by a Kite Optics K1 red dot sight, whose point-of-aim located 6mm lower than the lowest red dot on the market makes an adjustable stock basically unnecessary.
Standing at 47,5 mm / 1.87" of overall length, the Kite Optics K1 reflex sight is built around a machined aircraft-grade aluminum alloy body and features an optical glass lens protected by Browning's MHR Advanced+ scratch-proof treatment.
The 2 MOA dot is powered by a single CR2032 battery, hosted in a side compartment – so that it can be replaced without removing the sight from the gun – and can be adjusted for 11 different illumination levels.
Each Browning Maral Reflex Compo bolt-action hunting rifle is sold in an ABS case and comes with a gun lock, a QD sling swivel, a 7mm spacer and two 12mm and 25mm Inflex II recoil pads. Check your local Browning authorized dealer for availability and pricing.
