The Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 semi-automatic rifle is one of the best AR-15 variants around, made for the most demanding competition shooters and gun enthusiasts
Headquartered in Black Creek (Georgia - USA), Daniel Defense is one of America’s best manufacturer of AR-15 variants for civilian, competition shooting, and professional uses. Daniel Defense rifles and carbines are known worldwide for being some of the finest around, by no means “Entry Level” in terms of pricing and quality.
While quite popular in the United States, Daniel Defense rifles were so far close to impossible to find on the European civilian market; this changed pretty recently, with several DD models becoming more plentiful on the European market – including this Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 5,56x45mm / .223 Remington caliber semi-automatic rifle.
The Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 rifle is one of the Company’s top products, integrating several of the most sought-after features for an AR-15 style firearm.
The DDM4 V7 is built around a CNC machined, 7075-T6 aluminum upper and lower receiver, and available several finishes including the dark earth Cerakoted “MilSpec+” and the stenciled “Rattlecan” inspired by the natural design of reptile skin scales. In both cases, the finish is applied on a Type III hard anodized protective layer.
The lower receiver of the Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 rifle offers features such as a flared magazine well, an ambidextrous safety level and a quick-detach (QD) sling swivel attachment point.
The upper receiver comes with indexing marks and M4 feed ramps. The DDM4 V7 feeds through standard STANAG 4179 compliant magazines – that is, AR-15 type magazines of any make and material.
The DDM4 V7 comes factory-issued with a Daniel Defense pistol grip, manufactured out of glass-filled polymer and featuring a soft-touch insert. The stock is also manufactured out of the same polymer mix and features a soft-touch padding on the cheekpiece, and is installed on a six-position, 7075-T6 aluminum machined Mil-Spec receiver extension and buffer tube that hosts a heavy-type recoil buffer.
The 16-inch, Government-profile barrel of the DDM4 V7 rifle is cold hammer-forged out of chrome-molybdenum-vanadium steel, it is chrome-lined and heavy phosphate coated as per military specifics, and offers a 1:7” rifling pitch and a ½x28 TPI muzzle thread.
The barrel is high-pressure tested and magnetic particles inspected (HP/MPI testing), and comes factory-issued with an improved Daniel Defense flash hider manufactured out of 17-4 PH stainless steel with a salt bath nitride finish.
The DDM4 V7 features a direct impingement gas system, a mid-length gas tube and a pinned low-profile gas block that’s CNC machined out of 4140 hardened steel and hard phosphate coated.
The barrel and gas system are protected by a 6160-T6 aluminum CNC-machined Daniel Defense MFR 15” handguard, offering a full-length MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny top rail, a steel Daniel Defense Bolt-Up System barrel nut, several QD sling swivel attachment points and several M-LOK slots for rails.
The free-float MFR handguard helps to keep the overall weight of the DDM4 V7 rifle down to 2,8 kilograms (6.2 lbs).
Other features of the DDM4 V7 rifles include an enlarged trigger guard and an M16-profile, chrome-lined Mil-Spec bolt carrier group, magnetic-particle tested and with a properly staked gas valve.
Owing to the full-length top Picatinny rail, the Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 comes from factory without sights, leaving it to the owner to decide on his or her own what’s the most appropriate optics/iron sights configuration or combo for his or her needs.
As we said before, this is by no means an “Entry Level” AR-15 variant “for all pockets”, but it’s a high-quality product… and quality always comes at a price.
