The Chiappa Firearms MFour-22 Gen III semi-automatic carbine is entirely manufactured out of polymer – both the upper and lower receivers are 100% matte black reinforced synthetic – and does without any gas system to speak of, opting for a simple straight blowback operation, with the 16” barrel and the bolt carrier group being the only metal components.

The MFour-22 Gen III replicates the look, feel, and dimensions of modern AR-15 variants in almost all other aspects, including the manual of arms. All controls remain the same as in a centerfire AR-15 variant, exception made for the hold open release lever – which is completely inert – and the forward assist button, which is spring-loaded and can be pushed, but won’t have any effect on the bolt carrier group, acting essentially as a mere training aid.

The bolt and bolt carrier group of the MFour-22 Gen III are specific for .22 Long Rifle and for the MFour-22 upper receiver; it comes with its own return spring, meaning that the MFour-22 Gen III carbine doesn’t require a recoil buffer and a buffer tube – although it comes with one as a mounting point for the stock. There is no problem in adapting a folding stock to this rifle and firing it with the stock folded, as one would do with any one of the latest AR-compatible bufferless uppers.

The Chiappa Firearms MFour-22 Gen.III semi-automatic carbines feeds through proprietary single-stack 10- or 28-rounds magazines that will fit any STANAG magazine well, and features a collapsible 6-positions M4-type buttstock and a standard AR-15 pistol grip of Chiappa’s own manufacturer. Both can be removed and replaced with MIL-SPEC aftermarket components.

The MFour-22 Gen III’s monolithic polymer receiver features a quad-rail 11.8” handguard for tactical accessories, and a full-length MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail for optics. The carbine comes issued from factory with a set of black polymer flip-up sights and with a removable steel flash hider attached to the threaded muzzle.
