Manufactured by Chiappa Firearms out of a project designed by the famous Italian brand Domino, the FAS AR611 air rifle is intended as a quality starting point for ISSF 10 meter shooting
During the last two years Chiappa Firearms has entered the ISSF sport shooting market, after a collaboration with the Italian firm La Domino, specialized in designing and selling top sport guns since more than forty years.
After the Chiappa FAS AP 6004 air pistol – launched exactly one year ago as an upgraded version of the now legendary FAS 604 – this year was the time of the FAS AR611 air rifle, whose production was announced in July and whose commercial availability for Europe just kicked off.
The FAS AR611 air rifle is based out of a black hard anodized, CNC precision machined aircraft-grade aluminum solid frame and valve housing.
The initial beechwood stock of the prototypes has been replaced by an oil-treated walnut stock with a fully ambidextrous design and other competition-ready features such as a totally adjustable buttpad and cheek riser.
The AR611 air rifle comes with a fully adjustable two-stage Match trigger.
Just as all other small parts and mechanical components, the trigger is precision-machined out of steel and accurately checked upon production and installation to ensure the highest possible levels of precision and performance.
A unique technical feature of the Chiappa FAS AR611 air rifle is the barrel: it is a floating barrel, and its front portion can be twisted right or left to a 180-degrees to adjust the point of impact on the target.
Breech to muzzle, the barrel is 63 cm/24,8" long, Match choked, stainless steel machined, blued, rifled with ten right-handed grooves. The sighting line is 58 cm/22,8" long.
The Chiappa FAS AR611 is a single shot air rifle, and loads through a steel lever located on the right side of the frame – which is very quick, light and easy to operate.
Propulsion is provided by a removable 200-bar PCP air canister with integrated pressutre gauge.
A pressure regulator allows the performance of the valve to be adjusted ensuring over 170 shots with a single full charge.
As of today, the Chiappa FAS AR611 PCP air rifle is available only in a 4,5mm/.177 caliber low power version – with a muzzle velocity of approximately 167 metres per second (550fps) and a muzzle energy level not exceeding the 7.5 joules threshold that makes air rifles legal to purchase and own without licensing or registration required in most of Europe.
Two full-power versions of the AR611 air rifle are slated to be made available in the near future: the full-power 4,5mm/.177 caliber variant will feature a muzzle velocity of about 143 meters per second (800fps), while the 5,5mm/.22 version will offer a muzzle velocity level of approximately 363 meters per second (860fps). Both will come with a 250-bar air canister.
The Chiappa FAS AR611 PCP air rifle is 91 centimeters long overall (39"), and weighs in at approximately 3,1 kilograms (1.4 lbs).
An 11mm rail is machined on top of the frame, and two more are machined on the twistable front portion of the barrel – allowing the installation of iron sights or optical sights. A 9/11mm rail is located under the handguard, and provides an installation platform for other shooting accessories such as counterweights.
