In the years following the end of the American Civil War, in the United States there was a great number of 1862 revolvers around and, given the ease by which they could be converted to metallic cartridges, lacking an ejector rod or loading gate, and the affordability of the conversion, it's no surprise over 70% of existing 1862 cap and ball revolvers were converted.

The resulting firearm maintained the strong points of compactness and lightness of the parent handgun.

While its short barrel hampered ease of shooting at longer distances, on the other hand it made the pistol very concealable, which was a great asset for a gun meant for concealed carry by security personnel.

The Uberti 1862 Police Conversion is made using modern materials for enhanced safety and durability. All main parts are machined from forged steel blanks.

The revolver is chambered for the modern, easily sourced .380 ACP cartridge, and has a beautifully blued 3” ½ - 6" ½ barrel and a blued cylinder rolled with the same stagecoach robbery scene that was rolled on original Police revolvers, case hardened frame, hammer and loading lever and brass grip frame, and weighs 1.45 lbs (3” ½ barrel).

The handgun is available in standard finish, charcoal blue, Old West antique patina, nickel “coin” finish, white, and three degrees of engraving. Its classical beauty is enhanced by a warm walnut one piece grip. Polymer ivory and mother of pearl grips available as optional.
