Smith & Wesson issues safety recall notice for M&P12 shotguns

Smith & Wesson is announcing an important safety recall for all M&P12 pump-action shotguns manufactured before October 15, 2021.

Introduced barely two months ago, the M&P12 is Smith & Wesson's first shotgun in decades, and has been designed for home protection, sport shooting and tactical applications.

Offering a bull-pup design with ambidextrous controls, downwards ejection and a staggering capacity of 13 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition in 3" shells and 15 shots in 2.¾" shells, the M&P12 aligns to the most modern market trends and offers cutting-edge technical solutions. But no machine is exempt from defects – and Smith & Wesson's latest shotgun is no exception.

Recently, Smith & Wesson received two reports of barrels on brand new M&P12 shotguns cracking in the field. Despite the exiguous number of reports, in order to ensure that M&P12 users are able to enjoy their new shotgun in full safety, Smith & Wesson is implementing a safety recall on all M&P12 shotguns manufactured prior to October 15, 2021.

All M&P12 owners are urged not to use their shotgun until they can verify if it's affected by the recall. All recalled shotguns will be inspected to ensure there are no surface anomalies or conditions that might adversely affect the safety, function or performance – and repaired if necessary.
