The new Strasser RS 700 line of straight-pull rifles, announced in the past few days, is the latest entry in the vast catalogue of the HMS Präzisionstechnik company of Austria – itself specializing in high-end takedown, modular straight-pull hunting rifles ever since it debuted at the IWA expo in Nuremberg (Germany) in early 2005.

Compared to the mainstay of Strasser's production – the RS 14 line – the new Strasser RS 700 series distinguishes itself for its compatibility with a vast line of factory or aftermarket accessories and components manufactured for the wildly successful and widespread Remington 700 rifle and its variants.

The Strasser RS 700 series rifles feature the Austrian Company's own, lightning-fast straight-pull action, and are available in right-handed or left-ghabnded coinfigurations. All barreled actions are manufactured out of steel, with a full PlasOX matte black protective finish. Barrels are available in 55 cm / 20", 60 cm / 22" or 66 cm / 24", mated to the action via a solid nut that makes them easy to remove and replace. Three muzzle diameters – 16,6 mm, 18 mm or 22 mm – are available, all threaded for flash hiders, muzzle brakes, or sound suppressors.

All the Strasser RS 700 series rifles come from factory with a 1,13 kg / 2.5 lbs  Timney Elite Hunter trigger, and are compatible with all factory or aftermarket Remington 700 triggers.

Other Remington 700 components or accessories that are compatible with the Strasser RS 700 include all right-hand and left-hand 700 Short Action stocks; all recoil lugs; two-piece scope mounts; and all Remington 700 barrels, either with barrel nut or locking shoulder.

As of today, the Strasser RS 700 series includes three models: the Strasser RS 700 Legend, featuring a rosewood-finish walnut stock with an M-LOK slot for bipods underneath the handguard; the Strasser RS 700 AVA-Tahr, featuring a graphite black or forest green high-strenght polyurethane stock with an adjustable cheek riser; and the Strasser RS 700 XRS, built on an MDT XRS lightweight aluminum alloy chassis manufactured by Modular Driven Technology in Canada.

All variants feed through detachable Accuracy International Chassis System (AICS) magazines, and are available in four calibers: .308 Winchester, 6.5x47 Lapua, 6.5 PRC, and 6.5 Creedmoor. The Strasser RS 700 Legend and AVA-Tahr rifles come from factory with one 4-rounds magazine, and the RS 700 XRS comes issued with a 5-rounds magazine, but all models can accommodate higher-capacity AICS magazines.

Additionally, both the Strasser RS 700 Legend and AVA-Tahr feature a solid pillar bedding to solidly and rigidly keep the stock and barreled action together, for optimal stability.
