Johann Fanzoj: "The Great Migration" Express Rifle

Posted in:

Great Migration: is the name of the beautiful and precious express double rifle that you see in this page, a new gun from the World known Austrian gun maker Johann Fanzoj. It recalls the annual great migration of hundred thousands of Gnu in Central-East Africa, but the calibers of this rifle make it suitable for far more dangerous wild beasts.

In Austria, the gun making tradition of Ferlach goes back to the XV century.

Carinthia is rich of iron minerals and its production and manufacturing is well documented since 1529, when the capital city of the Carinthia dukedom was settled in Klagenfurt.

Later on, starting with the Austrian empress Maria Theresia (1717–1780) the Ferlach gun makers became the main suppliers for the Habsburg dynasty.

Soon after the death of Maria Theresia in 1780, Johann Fanzoj founded the gun laboratory that, through nine generations, is arrived to us always with realizations of the highest quality levels, well finished under all respects.

Made of passionate hunters who know very well the exigencies of hunting, always far away from mass production - incompatible with their quality levels -, the Fanzoj family continues even today a tradition in gun making that, even if adopting the most modern and advanced technologies, still remain substantially made by hand, in very small quantities of the highest quality.

A clear example of their art is the Express rifle of this page, one of the new rifles that gun maker of Ferlach Johann Fanzoj has presented this year at IWA. It is entitled “The Grand Migration”, whose name refers to the subjects adorning the incredible engravings of the side plates of the rifle.

But even if the name and the illustrations remind the Gnu migration, the calibers of the two sets of double barrels that come with this Express rifle - .600 Nitro Express and .470 Nitro Express - are made for far more dangerous animals.

By the way, coupling two different sets of barrels to an express rifle like this one is absolutely not an easy job. But this is a Fanzoj…

The beautiful art engravings that enrich this wonderful rifle with an exceptional perspective effect, are the work of Franz Mack.

Honestly speaking, there is not too much to add to describe the beauty of this Express Rifle. “Unfortunately” it’s a Fanzoj, and the images speak for themselves…
