SHOT Show 2020 – After the launch of the SP5K back in 2016, Heckler & Koch goes full circle with the SP5 – bringing back a semi-automatic version of the world-famous MP5 full-size sub-machine gun to the civilian market

Over thirty years after the original HK94 was discontinued, and four years after the highly coveted SP89 pistol came back to the market under the name of SP5K, Heckler & Koch brings back a full-size semi-automatic version of the MP5 sub-machine gun with the Heckler & Koch SP5 semi-automatic pistol.

Chambered in 9mm, the SP5 is built on the same machineries as the MP5, and retains as many features of the world-famous sub-machine gun as legally possible to provide an authentic "look and feel" that most civilian clones of the platform currently available on the market don't have.

The Heckler & Koch SP5 retains the original roller-delayed blowback operation as the original MP5 – minus, of course, the select-fire capabilities – and its original controls configuration, including the paddle-style magazine release that was dropped in the HK94 and SP89 in the 1970s and 1980s in favour of a button-style mag release. The magazines also remain the same: 10, 15 and 30 rounds mags will be made available.

The Heckler & Koch SP5 pistol comes with a standard 225mm / 8.86" "Navy" type barrel, featuring a fluted chamber, a chrome-lined bore and chamber and a ½x28 muzzle thread, as well as the original Tri-Lug muzzle device.

The SP5 is 452mm / 17.8" long overall and weighs 2,5 kilograms (5.1 lbs) empty. Other features of the SP5 include a "tropical" style handguard and original MP5-style sights, with a Picatinny interface for optics available as an optional.

Each Heckler & Koch SP5 is sold in a soft case with a custom fit for the pistol, a sight tool, two magazines and a single-point elastic bungie sling.

No stock is provided, in order for the gun to qualify as a pistol as per US laws, but the Heckler & Koch SP5 will readily accept any compatible armbrace, as well as all MP5-compatible fixed, folding or collapsible buttstocks for those users who will be in a legal position to turn them into SBRs.
