Recently introduced by the Turkish-based UTAS Defense Corp. (chiefly known for their UTS-15 pump-action shotgun) and by its north-American branch, UTAS-USA, the UTAS UT9M 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol is part of a brand new family of firearms dedicated to civilian personal defense, home and property protection, and sport shooting, as well as to law enforcement and private security applications.

The UTAS UT9M Micro pistol is built around a machined lightweight aluminum alloy upper and lower receivers, available in nine different colors, and sports a simple closed-bolt, straight-blowback working system with an improved, lightened bolt design. Built to be as close to the manual of arms of the AR-15 platform as possible, the UT9M Micro features an AR-15 type charging handle, manual safety, magazine release catch, takedown and pivot pins.

The UT9M Micro features a full-length top Picatinny rail for flip-up sights or optics, a shorter bottom rail for accessories – equipped from factory with a black polymer hand stop – and two slots on each side of the handguard for an additional set of rails if need be. An ergonomic polymer pistol grip comes with each gun.

The barrel of the UTAS UT9M Micro pistol is 155 mm / 6" long overall, features six right-handed grooves with a 1:10" twist rate, and comes from factory with a massive flash hider whose removal shortens the overall length of the gun of approximately 1 inch.

The UTAS UT9M Micro pistol feeds through Glock 9mm Luger double-stack pistol magazines of any make and capacity; is 381 mm / 15" long overall with the factory flash hider installed; weighs in at 2,1 kg / 4.6 lbs when unloaded and without optics; and features a built-in interface for AR-type buffer tubes, allowing users to turn it into a short-barrel rifle with an M4-compatible collapsible stock in compliance with local laws and regulations.

Two factory-stocked versions of the same design actually exist, namely the UTAS UT9M semi-automatic short barrel rifle – essentially the same firearm, but equipped from factory with a buttstock – and the UT9S sub-machine gun, which can be told apart from the semi-automatic versions by the different design of the upper receiver, handguard, and flash hider.

Both can be equipped with either a folding metal stock or an M4-type buffer tube and collapsible buttstock. The UT9S sub-machine gun reaches a cyclic rate of approximately 800 to 900 rounds per minute in full-automatic fire.

Other features of the UTAS UT9M Micro include stainless steel small parts, long life springs, and a generally very long minimum service parts, set at 15.000 rounds for the barrel and 12.000 rounds for all other components.

The UTAS UT9M Micro semi-automatic pistol is manufactured in the United States, and is already available on the US commercial market as a Davidson's exclusive at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $1,099.00.
