Taurus further expands the G3 line of semi-automatic pistol with the introduction of the G3XL crossover concealed carry-oriented pistol, built on a compact grip frame and a full-size slide and barrel

Less than a month after the Taurus G3X pistol was first showcased at the 2022 SHOT Show, Taurus International Manufacturing – the north American subsidiary of the Brazilian Forjas Taurus S/A company – announces the launch of a new model within the G3 line of polymer frame, striker-fired handguns: the Taurus G3XL 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol.

Just like the G3X, the new Taurus G3XL is a crossover pistol, built to merge compact and full-size pistol features to offer a "best of both worlds" product that would meet the needs and preferences of a bigger chunk of users.

However, while the Taurus G3X is built around a full-size grip and frame and a compact slide and barrel – thus offering better concealability while still remaining comfortable to use for bigger-handed shooters – the new Taurus G3XL does the exact opposite: the black reinforced polymer frame and grip are compact-sized, while the stainless steel barrel and the Tenifer matte black machined alloy steel slide are full-sized.

In this way, the Taurus G3XL aims at providing slightly superior performance in terms of accuracy and range – although how "superior" the performance of a 4" barrel may be, if compared to a 3.2" barrel, is definitely arguable – while still remaining easy to conceal and carry all-day round, and comfortable to handle and shoot for smaller-handed shooters, such as women or younger, first-time gun owners.

Under virtually all other points of view, the new Taurus G3XL semi-automatic pistol retains the features of the rest of the G3 line of handguns: a single-action only, striker-fired trigger with a restrike capability; front and rear slide serrations for quicker handling in a variety of positions and shooting techniques; a "Glock-style" trigger safety; a Picatinny rail integrated on the dust cover for tactical accessories; and no manual safety to speak of.

Standing in at approximately 18,5 cm / 7.28" in overall length, and weighing in at 691 grams (24.4 oz.) when empty, the Taurus G3XL feeds through double-stack metal magazines holding ten or thirteen rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition, depending from local laws and regulations. An additional round can be carried in chamber. All magazines feature an extended black polymer floorplate dubbing as a pinky rest, for more comfortable handling.

Other features of the Taurus G3XL include a "Glock-style" ambidextrous disassembly lever and a three-dot steel sighting system consisting of a fixed front sight and a dovetailed, drift-adjustable rear sight. The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the Taurus G3XL semi-automatic pistol in the United States is set at $342,98; international customers may want to reach out to their closest Taurus distributor for additional information concerning local availability and pricing.
