Taurus introduces the G3 9mm polymer pistol

Posted in:

A new take on the G2c pistol design by Taurus USA, the G3 is a full-sized, striker-fired, polymer frame semi-automatic pistol for duty and defensive purposes, chambered in 9mm and offered with a manual safety and magazine options for 10, 15 and 17 rounds

Taurus USA announced the release of their first full-size G-series handgun: the new G3 9mm semi-automatic pistol represents the next generation in the Taurus USA G-series polymer-frame handguns.

The Taurus G3 is based on the design of the G2c line of pistols, which for the past several years have been among the most popular everyday carry 9mm handguns in the United States due to their ergonomic design, ease of operation, and cost-effective price-to-quality ratio. Consumers and dealers have been asking for a full-sized version of the G2c design ever since its debut, and those calls have now been answered with the release of the new Taurus G3.

The G3 continues the proven polymer-frame profile of the G2c but in a full-frame configuration. Highlights include generous stippling patches across the grip for maximum control and retention in any shooting condition, an ergonomic palm swell and side-frame Memory Pads that provide quick, positive, and repeatable hand positioning.

The frame also incorporates an integrated Picatinny rail. A manual safety and slide release lever are optimally positioned above the thumb for easy manipulation – albeit on the left side only.

Another refined element of the new Taurus G3 pistol is the 6-lb. / 2,7 kg, single-action only trigger, with a smooth take-up and a crisp, clean break designed to exceed that of typical striker-fired pistol trigger performance. A short reset promotes quick, controlled follow-up shots.

Unlike most single-action firing systems, the G3 offers second-strike capability. A slightly redesigned trigger safety ensures an even safer handling.

Although full-frame in size, the Taurus G3 pistol sports a profile that makes it suitable for both open and concealed carry: uniform beveling along the front of the slide and frame combined with a steep contoured bevel along the back of the slide minimize clothing snags. Generous front and rear machined serrations along the slide ensure a no-slip grip for cartridge chambering and slide manipulation.

Additional slide features include a drift-adjustable rear sight, loaded chamber view port, steel guide rod and spring assembly, and the choice of black carbon steel or stainless-steel finish.

Currently available only in 9mm Luger, the Taurus G3 comes in six different models, offering consumer options in slide finish and magazine capacities: two 10-round mags, two 15-round mags, or one 15- and one 17-round mag. All magazines are double-stack and made of metal, with a polymer floorplate.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price for the new Taurus G3 pistol ranges between $345.23 and $360.70 in the United States, depending on the model configuration. No information concerning export availability and pricing is available as of yet.
