Taurus G3 Tactical: a new budget 9mm defensive pistol

Taurus introduces the G3 Tactical semi-automatic pistol: a new entry in the popular G3 line of polymer-frame, striker-fired handguns, the G3 Tactical offers a two-stage trigger, optics-ready slide, railed frame, high capacity, and Cerakote finished slide, all at a budget price

In 2022, handguns seem to be the hottest selling goods on the global civilian firearms market. At the 2022 edition of the NRAAM expo in Houston (Texas), Taurus International Manufacturing – the US-based subsidiary of the Brazilian Forjas Taurus S/A group – announced the introduction of a new member in the already vast and well-known G3 line of polymer frame, striker-fired handguns with the launch of the Taurus G3 Tactical 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol.

The new Taurus G3 Tactical pistol was specifically conceived with civilian and commercial sales in mind, with a close eye on all concealed and open carry needs, personal defense, home and property protection, and duty carry, particularly by private security personnel.

Standing in at 197 mm / 7.76" in overall length, sporting a 114,3 mm / 4.5" barrel, and weighing in at 703 grams / 24.3 oz. unloaded, the Taurus G3 Tactical pistol is definitely a full-sized pistol, but not large enough to result uncomfortable for smaller shooters to handle, carry, or fire.

The new Taurus G3 Tactical chambered is, as of today, chambered in 9mm Luger only, and feeds through double-stack magazines available in 10-rounds and 17-rounds options depending on local laws and regulations. The single-action, striker-fired trigger system features a restrike capability, so that in the event of a failure-to-fire condition, the shooter may reset and pull the trigger again to restrike the primer. The G3 Tactical features no manual safety, opting instead for a firing pin block and a Taurus G-Series two-stage trigger with an integrated trigger safety, a light take-up with a distinct wall, crisp break and short reset.

The new Taurus G3 Tactical is built around a Magpul FDE tan polymer frame with a MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail molded on to the dust cover to provide plenty of attachment space for tactical accessories, and a set of aggressively checkered surfaces on the grip for a firm hold in all positions. The magazine catch and slide stop are located only on the left side of the frame; the disassembly lever is pretty much Glock-style and easy to operate.

The machined carbon steel slide features a full Cerakote H-226 Patriot Brown finish; a set of front and rear serrations; a loaded chamber indicator for visual and tactile confirmation of the status of the firearm; and a T.O.R.O. (Taurus Optic Ready Option) modular micro red dot sights interface machined in front of the rear sight, right behind the ejection port.

The T.O.R.O. interface can use four interchangeable plate to mount some of the world's most famous and sought-after pistol sights, such as Docter, Vortex Venom, Burris FastFire, Trijicon RMR, Holosun 407c/507c, C-MORE STS2 or Leupold DeltaPoint Pro models.

The Taurus G3 Tactical comes with a set of tall, co-witnessing sights at an optimal height for suppressed shooting without a red dot optic, naturally co-witnessing with the red dot.

The carbon steel barrel of the Taurus G3 Tactical pistol is DLC-coated in black and features six right-handed rifling grooves, with a 1:10" twist rate, as well as a 1/2”x28 TPI protected thread at the muzzle, allowing the use of aftermarket compensators, weights, or suppressors were legal.

The Diamond Like Coating (DLC) finish provides lower friction, resulting in increased durability, and the suppressor-ready capabilities are perfect for those who want to practice shooting in the great outdoors while protecting their hearing and respecting the peace and quiet of their surroundings.

The new Taurus G3 Tactical semi-automatic pistol is already in distribution in the United States, at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of US$582.98; no information concerning international availability or pricing has been disclosed so far.
