Savage Arms introduces new 1911 Government-style pistols series

The M1911 – America's most quintessential pistol – has been given the Savage Arms treatment: while the look pays homage to the original, the Savage Arms 1911 is built for hard use, and available in three finishes, with a standard or railed frame, and in .45 ACP and 9mm Luger

The new Savage Arms 1911 Government-style series of semi-automatic pistols in .45 ACP and 9mm Luger represents, for the Westfield (MA)-based company, a return to an important page of its own history.

John Moses Browning's design beat the Savage Arms model 1907 pistol in the series of trials that were held from 1906 to 1911 to designate a new, semi-automatic service sidearm for the US Armed Forces, and would fulfill that role up until its replacement with the Beretta M9 in 1986. In 1917, Savage Arms itself was among the companies that received a substantial contract to license-manufacture M1911 pistols for the American Expeditionary Force, but World War I came to an end before the contract could be fulfilled.

Today, 106 years after that contract was cancelled, what's arguably the most American pistol ever gets the "Savage treatment" – a major upheaval of its looks without unnecessary tampering to a tried and true function, along with the benefits of a rock-solid construction: forged steel frame and slide, 5" stainless steel slide machined from billet with 11° target crown, dual recoil spring on full-length rod, nitride-coated titanium firing pin, and a fully machined sear, hammer, and disconnector.

All variants come with a streamlined slide featuring front and rear serrations, a lowered and flared ejection port cut for live round ejection, and a set of Novak Lo-Mount sights: adjustable tritium bar rear sight and tritium Mega Dot Glow Dome yellow front sight on the railed frame and two-tone versions, or black rear sight and white dot front sight for the stainless and black non-railed versions.

All variants are available in both railed and non-railed frame versions, and all come with an ambidextrous barrel lock frame-mounted manual safety and a set of VZ G10 grips.

The Savage Arms 1911 pistols are available in Melonite black, stainless, or bi-tone versions with a Nitride black slide and a matte natural frame.

All versions feed from single-stack metal magazines and are available in 9mm Luger or .45 ACP, with capacity ranging between 8+1 rounds (.45) and 10+1 rounds (9mm Luger).

Manufacturer's suggested retail price for the Savage 1911 pistols on the US market has been set at $1,350.00 for the Melonite black and stainless variants; at $1,425.00 for the bi-tone variant; and at $1,500.00 for all railed frame models, regardless of finish and caliber.

The Savage Arms 1911 Government-style series of semi-automatic pistols will make its debut to the general public at the 2023 edition of SHOT Show, scheduled to take place in Las Vegas on January, 17 thru 20.
