First announced in December 2015, and first showcased last January at the 2016 SHOT Show, the Ruger American Pistol is the new mainstay of the Connecticut based company's product line.

New for late 2016, the Ruger American Pistol Compact completes the line with a small-sized alternative for concealed carry, personal and property defense, and duty.

With a 3.55″ barrel, overall dimensions of 6.65″ long, 4.48″ high and a weight of 28.75 ounces with an empty magazine, the Ruger American Pistol Compact model shares all of the features and rugged reliability of the duty-size gun in a smaller, lighter, more concealable package. It ships in a hard case with small, medium and large replaceable grip modules and two nickel-Teflon plated steel magazines.

The Ruger American Rifle Compact model is issued with one 12-rounds compact magazine and one 17-rounds extended magazine; as of today, the only available caliber is the 9x19mm, a.k.a. 9mm Luger.

The American-made Ruger American Pistol Compact model is built on a rigid, one-piece, precision-machined, black nitrided, stainless steel chassis coated in polymer, with integral frame rails and fire control housing. Additional features include genuine Novak LoMount Carry three-dot sights, a stainless steel slide with non-reflective, black nitride finish, a one-piece, high-performance, glass-filled nylon grip frame and a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail as a mounting point for a wide variety of standard lights, lasers and infra-red illuminators.

The Ruger American Pistol Compact model is available with an ambidextrous frame-mounted manual safety or with the company's own Ruger Pro automatic safety system;  a pre-tensioned striker system and a powerful striker spring provide for positive ignition without a heavier trigger pull.

MSRP for the Ruger American Pistol Compact model is set at $579.00 in the United States. No word so far on exports.
