GSG Firefly pistol: from German Sport Guns comes a new take on the SIG Sauer Mosquito rimfire sporting model

The German Sport Guns company introduces the Firefly pistol, a familiar design to sport shooters

American Tactical Imports, the official distributor of GSG - German Sport Guns GmbH products in the United States, recently announced the launch of the GSG Firefly semi-automatic pistol.

The launch of the GSG Firefly pistol marks the return to the U.S. civilian market of the Mosquito, which has been phased out of distribution by SIG Sauer in 2015 due to changes in the company organization.

Manufactured for SIG Sauer by GSG - German Sport Guns GmbH and first launched in 2005, the Mosquito was a scaled-down rimfire version of the popular SIG Sauer P226. The launch of the GSG Firefly marks the return of a design that has so far established itself as a popular household name among sport shooters and civilian gun owners at large looking for an afforable .22 Long Rifle handgun for inexpensive plinking.

A rimfire version of the classic SIG Sauer service pistols design - conceived for range shooting, training and leisure - the GSG Firefly is 10% smaller than the original, and sports an aluminum-zinc alloy frame and a polymer frame with black plastic grip panels.

The GSG Firefly pistol is a hammer-fired, SA/DA straight blowback operated firearm feeding through a single-stack metal magazine holding up to ten rounds of .22 Long Rifle ammunition. The controls configuration is similar to that of full-size SIG Sauer P226-series pistols; exceptions include a reversible magazine catch and a slide-mounted ambidextrous manual safety. Additionally, the GSG Firefly comes with a magazine safety system that prevents the slide, hammer and trigger from being operated when the magazine is out.

The GSG Firefly is available in black, desert tan and OD green variants

The GSG Firefly semi-automatic pistol is available in matte black, olive drab green, and desert tan variants - all with adjustable sights. Basically a counterpart of the standard variant SIG Sauer Mosquito, the GSG Firefly is compatible with factory and third party accessories, including holsters, bridge mounts for optics, and magazine springs and extensions that will enhance the overall capacity to thirteen or sixteen rounds.

The GSG Firefly pistol is available exclusively in the United States of America through American Tactical Imports. The suggested retail price has been set at $269.95.

A version of the Firefly specifically conceived for the European market - and dubbed the Swiss Arms GS22 - was showcased by GSG at the 2015 edition of IWA, but it is yet to hit the markets.
