CMMG Dissent: a new civilian Personal Defense Weapon... and a statement of intents

Posted in:

CMMG Inc., a well known manufacturer of AR-15 variants for sport shooting, hunting, and defensive purposes, introduces the "Dissent" semi-automatic PDW in 5,56mm, .300 Blackout and 5.7x28mm: not just a firearm, but a bold statement against any and all infringements of Second Amendment rights!

The DISSENT is more than just a product. It is a platform to voice our peaceful opposition to the censorship and infringements that affect law abiding gunowners across America.

The DISSENT is peaceful opposition to big tech unjustly silencing 2A advocates across their platforms, erasing their 1st amendment rights and the idea of democracy in the process.

The DISSENT is peaceful opposition to the leaders that stand idly by as bureaucratic agencies continuously threaten to criminalize law-abiding firearms owners for exercising their constitutional rights.

Most importantly, The DISSENT is a reminder that We the People need to come together and peacefully oppose the ongoing abuses of power.

To help stop the assault on our liberties, CMMG asks that you join us in non-violent and legal opposition by acting now. Remember to practice safety and get training on proper firearms handling.

CMMG Dissent: a new civilian Personal Defense Weapon... and a statement of intents

Not just a firearm, but a bold statement of intents. This is what appears on the official webpage of the CMMG Inc. company website illustrating their latest product for 2022, the CMMG Dissent.

Technically speaking, given the legal definition currently valid in the US and other Countries, the Dissent is a semi-automatic pistol. It is actually much more than that: it is a civilian-grade personal defense weapon built to be modular, with a proprietary lightweight aluminum alloy upper receiver – featuring a prominent case deflector and a MLOK handguard – installed on a standard MIL-SPEC AR-15 lower receiver, more specifically in this case CMMG's own Mk4 lower.

Non-technically speaking, however, the Dissent represents CMMG's own way to fight back – and to urge all gun owners in the United States to fight back – against the creeping gun control tendencies that threaten the Second Amendment rights of American citizens and residents. After the recent tragedies in Buffalo (NY) and Uvalde (TX), gun rights advocates all through the US had to fight back once again against law proposals that are nothing short of liberticide.

The CMMG Dissent features a free-float 16,51 cm / 6.5" Chrome-Moly steel barrel with a CMMG ZEROED linear compensator threaded on at the muzzle.

Two of the three versions of the CMMG Dissent are based on the standard AR-15 direct gas impingment system, but feature CMMG's own proprietary bolt-carrier, dubbed the "Compact Action", which integrates all the reciprocating action parts and eliminates the need for a recoil buffer and relevant tube.

And indeed, the CMMG Dissent comes from factory with a MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail portion at the rear end of the lower receiver, allowing the use of aftermarket stocks, sling swivels, or armbraces.

For those who don't know, in the United States, any firearm with a rifled barrel shorter than 16 inches (406 mm) is legally an SBR ("Short Barrel Rifle") if fitted with a stock. Individuals who wish to possess an SBR in the United States need to fill an ATF form, pay a tax, and wait for a lengthy clearance process; installing a stock on a firearm with a rifled barrel shorter than 16" without following said process is a federal felony that may lead to lengthy prison sentences.

The CMMG Dissent also comes equipped with a full-length Picatinny rail for optics, flip-up iron sights, or tactical accessories.

CMMG Dissent 5.7x28mm variant: unlike its gas-operated .300 BLK and 5.56mm counterparts, this version feeds through proprietary magazines and is based on CMMG's proprietary radial delayed blowback working system

The controls configuration on the CMMG Dissent are the same as on any AR-15, with an ambidextrous safety switch and magazine release catch. The only exception is the charging handle, which on the Dissent runs in a slot above the barrel, on the left side. It is non-reciprocating, and not reversible, but a right-side charging handle can be purchased separately.

As of today, the CMMG Dissent is available in six Cerakote finishes and three calibers: the 5.56x45mm/.223 Remington and .300 AAC "Blackout" models feed through standard STANAG 4179-compatible magazines of any make, model, and capacity; the 5.7x28mm version feeds through CMMG's proprietary magazines.

The CMMG Dissent in 5.7x28mm also does without the typical direct gas impingment system, opting instead for CMMG's own radial delayed blowback system.

The .300 BLK caliber model also comes from factory with an SLR Rifleworks adjustable gas block, allowing easier, cleaner, and quieter use with silencers / sound suppressors.

All models of the CMMG Dissent platform are compatible with CMMG's own ZEROED line of components and accessories and feature the AR-D two-stage trigger, specifically designed for this firearm by TriggerTech in collaboration with CMMG. The TriggerTech AR-D design features a flat-face trigger and a 1,8 kg / 4lbs pull.

Standing at 373 mm / 14.5" in overall length – without additional stocks or armbraces – and weighing in at 2,08 kilograms / 4.6lbs when empty, the Dissent is CMMG's most compact and stowable personal defense weapon to date, and one of the best in its category outright.

As of today, the manufacturer's suggested retail price for the CMMG Dissent is set at $1,999.95 on the US market, with no information available concerning export distribution and pricing.

CMMG, however, has already announced that the Dissent upper receiver and compact action – compatible with all MIL-SPEC AR-15 lowers – will be available separately at a later date.
