Sightmark's Wolverine 1x23 CSR red dot sight, with its 4 MOA illuminated dot and its sturdy construction, is ideal for short-range application on defensive, sporting, or tactical shotguns and short-barrel rifles
The Wolverine line of red dot sights is manufactured and distributed by the Texas-based Sellmark Corporation under the Sightmark brand as a non-magnified alternative to the company's own Wolfhound line of 3x and 6x tactical prismatic sights.
Sporting a distinctive, futuristic design, the Sightmark Wolverine red dot sights are relatively new to the market, and yet they've earned a good reputation as cost-effective market alternatives for civilian sporting, hunting and defensive purposes, as well as for law enforcement applications.
First introduced in 2017 and available in matte black and flat dark earth variants, the Sightmark Wolverine 1x23 CSR red dot sight is the mainstay of the line.
A non-magnified red dot sight with a short focal plane, the Wolverine 1x23 CSR was conceived as a target acquisition device for close-range shooting on tactical shotguns, sub-machineguns, and either select-fire or semi-automatic short barrel rifles, thus finding a plethora of potential buyers among civilian shooters – for either practical shooting sports or home and property defense, as well as for leisure shooting or training – and law enforcement officers alike.
The Sightmark Wolverine 1x23 CSR is built around a machined 6061-T6 aluminum body that's nitrogen purged for resistance to fog and humidity, and rubber-coated for protection against scratches, shocks, and aggressive environmental elements such as dust, sand, or water.
The Wolverine CSR red dot sight is IP67 certified for water resistance up to three meters (3 feet) in depth, and will work reliably at temperatures ranging from -22° to +50°C (-22° to 122°F).
The 23mm offers a wide field of view and a good level of situational awareness for close-range target engagement, with unlimited eye relief.
Optical glass lenses sport a scratch-proof, anti-reflection red finish, but a model-specific anti-reflection honeycomb filter is also available as an additional layer of protection.
The 4 MOA illuminated red dot (no green option available here!) can be adjusted on a 120-MOA range for windage and elevation through a set of capped turrets offering positive 1-MOA clicks; turret caps are connected to the rubberized body via wide plastic bands to prevent them from falling loose and getting lost, in whatever condition.
A set of two push-buttons located on the left side of the body allow the user to turn the dot on or off and navigate between ten different illumination levels; the lowest two settings are NVG-friendly, thus making the Sightmark Wolverine 1x23 CSR red dot sight compatible with night vision devices.
The red dot illumination is powered by a single, replaceable commercial 1.5V AA battery hosted in an O-ring sealed, shockproof, waterproof compartment with a screw-on cap located on the left side of the body, just under the illumination adjustment batteries.
Battery life can go from a minimum of 500 hours at the maximum illumination level to a staggering 50.000 hours with a mid-level (lev.6) selected, and up to 1.000.000 hours of continuous runtime at the lowest illumination level.
The Sightmark Wolverine 1x23 CSR red dot sight is 84mm / 3.3" long, 71,6mm / 2.8" wide and 61,1mm / 2.4" tall, for an overall weight of 292 grams (10.3 oz). The overall look is among the most radical to have ever made it to the market, but unlike other similar unconventional designs, it won't hinder performance; plus it is Weaver and Picatinny compatible, it will withstand recoil energies up to 800Gs and is offered at just the right price for the average user and for law enforcement agencies. Everything you need, nothing you don't.
