The Aimpoint 9000L is a full-length red dot sight for standard and magnum action rifles, part of the well-established 9000 series conceived by the well-known Swedish. Let's take a closer look at it

Aimpoint AB – possibly the world's best known manufacturer of red dot sights – first introduced the 9000 series as a replacement of the 7000 series as far back as in 2005.

Aimpoint is best known for its professional-grade aiming solutions, and as a matter of fact over 1.500.000 Aimpoint red dot and reflex sights have been sold to military and law enforcement operators since the Company opened for business back in 1975. And yet, the 9000 series aims distinctly at the civilian market, and more specifically, to hunters.

The Aimpoint 9000L red dot sight is the full-length entry and mainstay of the line as of today, and was conceived to be matched with semi-automatic rifles, standard or magnum bolt-actions, and other hunting guns with a long line of sight.

The Aimpoint 9000L is built around a semi-matte black anodized aircraft-grade aluminum alloy tube that's 20 cm (7.9") long, 55 mm (2.2") wide and high overall, and sports a 23mm (0.9") clear aperture. The overall weight ranges around 230 grams (8.1 oz), battery included.

The secret of the longevity of the design – substantially unchanged since its introduction in 2005! – is Aimpoint's own, patented Advanced Circuit Efficiency Technology: the Aimpoint 9000 line red dot sights, along with the professionally-oriented Aimpoint CompC3, were the first to implement the ACET low-power consumption diode circuitry technology.

The Aimpoint 9000L's LED-based reflex collimator sight projects a 2-MOA or 4-MOA red dot, depending on the variant, with a peak wavelength ranging around 655 nm.

A shorter variant, dubbed the Aimpoint 9000SC, is available for shotguns, short-action rifles, and long-barrel hunting handguns.

The Aimpoint 9000L does not provide a night vision-friendly mode and is not compatible with night vision devices. The Aimpoint 9000SC-NV, a variant of the 9000SC model, is the only entry in the 9000 line to offer NVD compatibility for night hunting.

The Aimpoint 9000L is powered by a single 3V 2L76 or DL1/3N battery, whose runtime can range up to 50.000 hours of continuous use thanks to the ACET technology. The red dot brightness can be set to nine different levels, with a fairly high level of visibility against a background luminance (the level is 0.1 to 55 000 lx, for all luminotechnics buffs out there).

Simply put, it means that the red dot remains perfectly visible even in daylight and with the best environmental lighting conditions – something that many competitors don't have, thus having to rely on complex and expensive technologies to produce green dots that are notoriously more easily visible in broad daylight.

The red dot on the Aimpoint 9000L can be adjusted for windage and elevations via the dedicated side and top dials, offering an adjustment value of 12mm at 100 meters per click – that's half inch at 100 yards.

Other features of the Aimpoint 9000L include a multicoated, scratch-resistant and anti-reflex set of lenses; a high level of resistance to shocks, vibrations and impacts; water resistance up to five meters (15 ft.) in depth and exposure resistance to solvents and chemicals, as per the technical specs.

While being long enough to facilitate familiarization by those hunters and shooters who are more fond with magnified riflescopes, the purely 1x Aimpoint 9000L provides quick, instinctive target acquisition capabilities on short-to-mid range against most large game.

It can be installed on any scope rail via two 30mm rings (not included), maintaining a 20 mm (.8 in) height over the top surface of a Picatinny or Weaver rail, with a maximum distance of 145 mm (5.69") between the mounting rings.

For thirteen years now, the Aimpoint 9000L is still among the favorites of those who love to challenge themselves and their equipment in the most demanding shooting situations.
