Gun Ban: US and EU, two shores of one same dividing Ocean

Posted in:

Could the outcome of the U.S. Presidential elections have repercussions on the European fight against senseless gun control measures? With the matter being extremely polarizing on both sides of the Big Pond, could a victory of the anti-gunners in the U.S. provide new strength to the anti-gunners in Europe?

To most gun control and gun rights supporters as well, is no mystery any longer that the destinies of law-abiding gun owners are intertwined mostly all around the world.

With the action of gun control lobbies being coordinated around the world by both international entities such as the United Nations and by powerful millionaires such as George Soros – whose heavily financed European consulting group, Kumquat Consulting, lists among its most "reliable allies" in the EU institutions some key figures that can have an important role in the EU gun ban plans – it's clear that the electoral success or failure of an anti-gun politician in the United States could have a great influence on the outcome of the fight for our gun rights.

It's not a mystery to anybody that Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Democratic Party candidate for the 2016 U.S. Presidential elections, is a staunch supporter of gun control.

Not only does she mention it openly on her campaign website – with a strong hint at her will to impose an "Assault Weapons Ban" like that signed by her husband in 1994, despite such measure being today opposed by 2 out of 3 americans according to a Gallup poll – but leaked E-Mails show how she is willing to use executive orders to impose measures even more ambitious than Obama's, such as "universal" background checks and opening gun manufacturers to lawsuits for deaths and injuries caused by their products.

American gunmakers are currently protected from such lawsuits by the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, and even in gun-controlled Europe, such a measure is unthinkable. Hillary's plan to make American gun manufacturers open to lawsuits has been strongly condemned by her most direct opponent at the Primary elections, self-proclaimed socialist Vermont senator Bernie Sanders – who openly stated that it could potentially end gun manufacturing in America.

As Wayne LaPierre, President of the National Rifle Association, warned on October 21st:

If, God forbid, Hillary Clinton is elected, she will launch an all-out war on the Second Amendment. She will come for your guns. She will attack your right to carry. She will attack your most basic right to defend your family with a firearm in your home.

Her sneaky intentions are obvious enough that her campaign staffers don't seem too shy to talk about them.

Hillary Clinton has said publicly that she sees Australia's gun confiscation as a successful model that should be considered in the United States. But Victoria, Australia Parliament Member Jeff Bourman describes his Country's firearm confiscation program as wasteful and ineffective and urges Americans to remain alert to attacks on the Second Amendment.

Donald Trump

Donald J. Trump: although not the most likeable of all Republican candidates, he is an overt supporter of Second Amendment rights

The figure of Donald J. Trump is controversial to say the least – and observers worldwide have already labeled him as one of the less likeable candidates to ever run for President of the United States. As a matter of fact, we may say that both candidates are probably the least liked, or the most hated, presidential runners in recent U.S. history.

And yet, with all his defects, Donald J. Trump seems to be the only logical choice for American voters who value their gun rights. His program regarding the Second Amendment rights of the American people starts with a simple sentence:

The Second Amendment to our Constitution is clear. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period.

Donald J. Trump's proposals to reduce gun violence and crime in America include better enforcement of laws already in the books to ensure efficient prosecution of those criminals whose actions are more likely to fuel violence on the streets of American cities; fix the defects of America's mental health system and the current background checks system, in order to prevent firearms from falling legally in the wrong hands; and defend the rights of law-abiding gun owners by opposing any kind of firearm or magazine ban and making all concealed carry licenses valid nationwide regardless from the State of issue.

Promoted by the NSSF - National Shooting Sports Foundation to bring all gun owners and gun enthusiasts together politically in order to stop anti-gun politicians from raising to power, the GunVote online service allows American citizens who value gun rights to register to vote and to browse an extensive list of candidates – along with a detailed exposé of their position on gun rights.

This effectively allows Second Amendment friendly voters to cast their ballots wisely and efficiently oppose ideologically-motivated gun control ploys at a local, State and Federal level.

Europe and Firearms United

The Firearms United network was founded in October 2013 to bring together the efforts of many small national gun rights association when Cecilia Malmström, then European Commissioner for Home Affairs, published an "Action plan against gun violence" which included many of the provisions that the European Commissions would include in its draft for an amendment to the European firearms directive two years later, following the terrorist bloodshed in Paris.

Such provisions would do little or nothing to fight illegal gun trafficking and to curb the black market of illegal weapons of war that arm the hands of criminals and terrorists in Europe – but, on the other hand, they would jeopardize the lifestyle of more than 100 million law-abiding gun owners in Europe: these include reservists, hunters, sport shooters, collectors, firearm dealers, manufacturers, security professionals, range operators and ordinary citizens who own firearms legally.

The Commission's proposal, published in November 2015, is pretty much akin to the gun control plans shared by so many American politicians and carried forward with disastrous results in Countries like Australia and the United Kingdom; they include a total ban on modern sporting firearms and standard capacity detachable magazines, even when deactivated; a total ban on collectible machineguns, owned by private collectors and museums, which would cause the destruction of highly valuable historical items; and tight regulations on deactivated firearms and even harmless replicas.

The EU Gun Ban plan has however been met immediately with an unexpectedly harsh resistance, not just by the Members of the European Parliament and by the governments of several Member States – but also by the European gun owners community.

This is something that never happened before in Europe, and led many anti-gun politicians to cry against the "Dangerous surge of a gun lobby" in the Continent. With no agreement having been reached in the past months – and no outcome whatsoever expected to come out of the so-called "Trilogue" at least for several more months, despite calls from the Council of European Union to reach an agreement before the end of the year and by the European Commission to achieve a total ban on several categories of firearms – the Firearms United network is organizing a conference that will be kept on November 16th at the European Parliament building in Brussels.

The network and the MEPs that host the conference are set to expose the lies that the EU gun ban plans are based upon, and to force the European Commission to face the might of an opposing force that, despite being still very young, has so far managed to throw a wrench in the works of the mighty EU.

With anti-gun movements and politicians joining under a set of ideas and action plans that are the same all around the world and share most focal points, it's just normal that gun rights movements shall do the same if we want our heritage and rights to survive. It's indeed the hope of the Firearms United network that the American shooters community, and their relevant associations, will realize how the outcome of the fight in Europe is tied to the outcome of the fight in the United States, and vice-versa.

"United we stand, divided we fall," said Patrick Henry in 1799. And the Atlantic Ocean is not big enough to keep the people on either side safe from the consequences of what will happen on the other.

On November 16th, 2016, the Firearms United network will hold a conference in Brussels to discuss and evaluate the negative impact of the proposed EU gun ban on the legitimate gun market and legal gun owners
