IWA 2016 – the Winchester Extreme Point hunting ammunition arrive to the European market, promising top performances to rifle hunters

The typical rifle hunting bullet is the soft points, and has been in use for the last 60 years or more.

To improve the terminal performance of a hunting bullet, one of the best choice you have is to work on the bullet tip, and this is what all ammunition manufacturer have been trying in recent years. And this is what has been done in the new Winchester Extreme Point hunting ammunition, a successful cartridge already well tested last year in the US market (and field) under the name of Winchester Deer Season.

The core (in the real sense of the word) characteristic of new Winchester Extreme Point hunting ammunition is the adoption of a wider polymer tip, intended to provide increased stopping power. Winchester has made the diameter of the polymer tip as wide as possible to design a bullet that expands faster and delivers enormous and instant stopping power, while offering a high accuracy.

Impact diameter is the front most expanding portion of the bullet. Larger impact diameter allows for more trauma and energy deposit while bullet is carrying its highest level of velocity and energy.

Extreme Point bullets utilize higher percentage (48%) of available frontal area than conventional Soft Point bullets (8%) or classic Plastic Tip designs (22%).

The Extreme Point bullet starts expanding with a much larger diameter than a traditional bullet, and this results in a quicker and more massive transfer of energy. Thanks to its original design and to its ballistic performances the Winchester Extreme Point delivers a higher knock down power than a traditional 180 gr soft point bullet

Extreme Energy Transfer

The Extreme Point retains a higher velocity even at long distance thanks to its high ballistic coefficient. The extreme energy transfer is due to two factors:

  • a very high speed thanks to the high ballistic coefficient
  • a much larger impact diameter (48%)

The combination of these two elements offers the Extreme Point ammunition impressive results.

The Winchester Extreme Point is built for medium to heavy game. Accuracy, combined with massive bullet impact performance means that Extreme Point is a great choice for:

  • driven hunt where massive knockdown power is needed
  • long distance shots thanks to its excellent accuracy and medium payload

The Winchester Extreme Point ammunition is available in the following calibers/bullet weights:

  • .243 WIN       95 gr
  • .270 WIN      130 gr
  • .270 WSM     130 gr
  • 7 mm REM   140 gr
  • .308 WIN      150 gr
  • .30-06 SPR   150 gr
  • .300 WM       150 gr
